If you have read some of my other skincare posts, you know my skin is like the Sahara desert year round but it gets even worse in the winter. Yeah, I didn’t know that was possible either but here we are. Apparently, my hair was feeling a little left out and has decided to hop on the Dryness Express. No Bayalage for me! Nothing is more uncomfortable than sitting on the train or at your desk and just feeling SO DARN DRY and picking all the split ends out of your hair…
To combat this horror show, I am sharing a few of my tried and true favorites for the winter months…other than stocking up on green juice and drinking alllll the wateeeer! Please share your must-haves with me!
When I went in for my last bayalage, my hairstylist was like “honey…no…” My hair was too dry and fragile to bleach! It was a travesty. She recommended the Kerastase Resistance line (Shampoo, Conditioner and leave in serum) as well as Olaplex Step 3. It has been doing WONDERS for me! I hope to be back to highlights by Spring! You can find this at Sephora or your local salon! I also love to use the OUAI texturizing spray on those big ol’ bun days!
I HATE chapped lips. Like, so much. I do ANYTHING and everything in my power to avoid them. I am a dream for lip balm companies. Here is my routine: Lush Lip Scrub 3x per week (buy online or at Lush Stores), Glossier Balm dot Calm like alllll day (The coconut smells like vanilla, find online!), Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen Lip Treatment every night before bed and each morning on my way to work (Sephora) and if I am going out to an event or having date night, I will pregame with a Skyn Iceland Plumping Lip Gel!
Why is it that this is the easiest place to spot aging! So unfair. I did happen to find and fall in love with an eye cream after tying a bajillion and that’s the Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel. I put it on evening and night, patting the undereye with my ring finger as well as running under my brow line. It absorbs quickly and gives me an instant pick me up! Like the lip gels, I like to use Skyn Iceland or Tarte Eye gels before a big event!
I have always been a fan of The Body Shop and their Cruelty-Free stance so when I was in there a couple months ago to pick up some Body Butter, I took a glance at their skincare. Well, a much bigger purchase than I was anticipating later, I walked out with new day and night serums, gels and creams! My routine, in addition to what has been mentioned before, is the Drops of Youth Concentrate and Vitamin C SPF in the morning, then the Oils of Life facial Oil and Vitamin E Cream at night. My skin looks amazing and these products are a fraction of the luxury brands I was using before! If I need a quick pick me up during the day (when, not if) I go for the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Spray! I love their products almost as much as their branding…
Fittingly, I have always purchased a lot of my Body products from the aforementioned Body Shop. I love the Wild Argan Body Wash (It’s nice and pretty fragrance free so my husband will use it and it’s a big container since I shave with it!) and the Almond Milk and Honey Body Butter (THE BEST SMELL!) For my twice a week scrub (or everyday after a Brazilian), I recently discovered the Herbivore Coco Rose Body Polish which is amazing for my dry back arms and butt (what is UP WITH THE DRY BUTT THING?!) My final body product is the Lush Massage Bars. The “Each Peach” is my favorite but I also try to stock up on all of their seasonal releases!
Must Have Supplements
I have been obsessed with Hum Nutrition for about 3 years! They’re affordable, effective and I like how targeted they are. I have tried almost everything they offer and have settled on a daily routine of: Runway Ready (hair and nails), Base Controle (multivitamin), Glow Sweet Glow (skin), Hair Sweet Hair (Hair, duh), Here Comes the Sun (vitamin D), Beauty Zzzzz (sleep aid with Vitamin B) and a daily scoop of the Raw Beauty Green Superfood Powder (my favorite flavor is the mint chocolate chip!) If you order from HUM, use code 1180AA for $10 off! Each morning and night, I also use Beekeeper’s Naturals Propolis spray. I have a horrible immune system but I have not been sick once since using this! If you want to learn more, check out the Almost30 Podcast Episode 141 where they interview the Founder Carly Stein. I learned so much.
